Here's the deal: There are things beyond our control going on down in Baja in general and San Felipe specifically that make it impossible for us to do an EDR in '09. Many of the riders over the past three years have spent considerable vacation time, money, and energy to get to this run, and we take that responsibility seriously. We can't guarantee that Ruben's Campo will be there in Spring and there really isn't a location as perfect for this gathering. It would suck to make a bunch of promises only to get sideswiped by things we can't control. Maybe we'll find a new location someday, but right now we don't have that spot. Sure there are other camps and plenty of ways we could do it differently, but frankly we won't compromise. If we can't do it exactly the way we want, we won't do it half-assed and disappoint a bunch of folks.
To everyone who busted their asses to go on this run, all we can say is a great big thanks. You weirdos, wingnuts and degenerates made this happening what it was and the biggest reward we could get was watching you all have such a good time getting back to the core of what our scene is about: riding and working on hand-built motorcycles. It has truly been our humble pleasure.
The EDR has been a catalyst for us and for plenty of you- helping us meet like-minded outcasts and learn more about ourselves and our motorcycles along the way. We'll miss that of course, but new events are the evil spawn of the EDR: Gypsy Run, Chop Meet, Rogue Run, Tipple Run, you name it. New grass roots events centered around the culture of riding motorcycles-not posing with them-have sprouted up all over the place, and we're proud to have helped kindle that fire. To anyone who missed it three years in a row, well, get your shit together son; we may do it again someday.
It can't really be dead if it has a chance to come back, right? OK, so maybe it's in a coma. Or maybe it's a zombie. Whatever metaphor you choose, we might start it up again once things settle down. So maybe 2010 or 2011. Who knows? We'll just have to see. In the meantime, please support (or start your own) grass roots events and get out and have fun on a motorcycle you built yourself.
SINCERELY,
BILL, CHRIS, MCGOO AND MIKE
