Tim Mummert owns a shop called Debauchery Custom Cycles in Hanover, Pennsylvania, and started the planning process of building a custom bike one day. However, this one was going to be different than the others: It was going to be his personal ride. So with that in mind, he decided to kill two birds with one stone and make himself happy while promoting the name of his shop. The bike had to be eye-catching enough to get people to look at it, and it had to have a lot of torque and horsepower to satisfy his needs. With those requirements in mind, he got to work preparing the perfect foundation.
Acquiring a frame was the foremost task on the Debauchery Custom Cycles buildsheet. Tim called up Daytec and ordered a 250 Softail-style frame with 5 inches in the downtubes, 3 inches in the backbone, and 44 degrees of rake in the neck. A Perse 14-inch-over frontend was bolted to the neck with a set of 6-degree triple-trees, giving the bike 50 degrees of overall rake. The swingarm was attached to a pair of Works Performance shocks to smooth out the bumps in the road.
The wheels on the bike had to continue with the high-quality theme, so Tim got out the PM catalog to figure out what would work best with the design he had in his head. He chose to go with a set of Vintage wheels, a 21-incher in the front and an 18x8.5-inch in the rear, both wrapped in Avon rubber. The wheels matched the rotors and pulley, and he knew he was going to go with a high-performance engine, so he bolted on a six-piston P.M. caliper in the front for extra braking ability and a four-piston P.M. caliper in the rear.
It wasn't hard for Tim to find the right motor for his chopper; all he had to do was call Merch Performance for a beautifully polished 131ci monster. He added an S&S Super D carburetor with a Wimmer Machine air cleaner, a Comp-U-Fire ignition, and a custom set of stainless steel exhaust pipes built at the Debauchery shop. Bolted to the left-hand side of the motor is a Billet-4-U open belt primary with a Barnett Scorpion clutch that feeds the input shaft of a Baker six-speed transmission.
At this time, the bike was all chopper, and Tim didn't want to stray from his vision. So for sheetmetal, he went with a minimalist look -- nothing there that didn't need to be. The Debauchery shop constructed the rear fender with internal struts and flowed the seat pan area into the rear of the Independent gas tank. Since the front fender wasn't absolutely necessary, this bike didn't get one. Satisfied with the styling he created, everything was sent to Ronnie Morrison for molding, then rushed over to Mike Learn for a black basecoat and some wild graphics that consisted of skulls, eyeballs, and tribal designs.
When the sheetmetal and frame returned from Learn, Tim and his crew got to work bolting on the final accessories. Debauchery fabricated the handlebars and risers, along with the taillight, turnsignals, and license mounts. PM supplied the mirrors and hand/foot controls, then came a headlight from Headwinds and a seat from Redman.
When the sparks stopped flying and the wrenches stopped turning, Tim took a step back to admire the Debauchery Custom Cycle creation. It turned out better than he imagined it would, and it was finished just in time -- he needed something to ride, and the summer show circuit was just about to start.
