With the bike nearly complete, Pete's excitement was almost more than he could handle. In fact, he was so stoked on how the bike was looking, he was almost tempted to wire it up, throw some handlebars and controls on it, and ride the raw metal retro. However, after taking a quick break, Pete came to his senses and began tearing the bike down so he could get it painted. The sheetmetal and frame were handed over to Chris Flake of Flake Auto body in Oregon City, Oregon. After covering the metal pieces in several coats of Righteous Red, the tank was given to Jason Custom for some subtle pinstripes.
As soon as Pete got his hands on the painted pieces, he jumped to the task of bolting on the final components. A pair of V-Twin 8-inch risers were bolted to the triple-trees, followed by a custom set of bars that Pete made. The ends of the bars were treated to a set of CCI hand controls with matching forward controls and footpegs mounted down below. Lighting was taken care of with a Paughco 5-3/4-inch headlight up front and an old-school Sparto taillight mounted to the rear fender. Once again Pete called upon one of his friends to help him out with the project; this time it was Mark Suhr of Milwaukie Choppers in Milwaukie, Oregon. Mark took care of all the plumbing and wiring, and when he was finished, all Pete had to do was add the Saddleman seat.
As he was taking his first ride on his new old-school chopper, Pete got a lot of positive feedback. The negative feedback he received came when he got home and his wife, Sandy, was standing in the driveway. She wasn't upset with the look of the bike, she was just mad because there wasn't enough room for her on the back. So to make her happy, Pete bought another bike that they could ride on together. Who knows, maybe in a few months we'll see that bike on the pages of STREET CHOPPER with Sandy at the helm.
