As soon as the bike was rolled through his garage doors, he started to rip it a part. The motor had some 80,000 miles on it, and it showed, so Tim planned to replace everything but the cases and the flywheels. The rods, pistons, cylinder, and valves were new, and the stock heads were cleaned and ported. Then, Tim had the rockers replaced and the rocker boxes polished, added an S&S Super E carburetor and one-off exhaust pipes from Chica. When it came time to work the ignition into the plan, Tim went with a rebuilt Magneto that he picked up from Joe Hunt. The stock four-speed trans was in good shape for having so many miles, so all he needed to do was replace the gaskets and the kicker's start gear, return spring, and then chrome the cover.
The frame was sent out to get powdercoated black, and as soon as it came back, Tim bolted the stock H-D wide-glide frontend to the neck along with a 21-inch RevTech spoke wheel with a CCI caliper and rotor. Out back, he mounted a 16-inch RevTech spoke wheel along with the same setup for brakes as the front. Tim was rolling through the swapmeet, and picked up a set of H-D take-off Dunlop tires for less than 60 dollars. On the same trip, he also scored on a set of foot and hand controls from CCI, along with a rolled oil bag and an old king tank.
On his way home, he stopped off at the Chica shop and got a rear fender, a set of custom handlebars, and a license plate mount. The fender was sent out for chrome as the bars and controls were mounted to the bike. As soon as the rear fender was back with Tim, he mounted it up to the bike and custom fitted a seat pan that fit the fender just right. Next, the gas tank was sandblasted so that all the rust was removed, then he stopped in at SGV Choppers in Covina, California, where Buck went to work on molding all the dings and shaping the tank. Next, it was covered in copper metalflake with a black basecoat, then buffed and cleared, and some pinstriping was added. The tank was the last thing to get bolted to the bike. The bike was then filled with gas and oil, Tim called Tristan, and the two hit the highway for a shakedown run to make sure their bikes were ready to fight the traffic from Orange County to L.A. the next morning on their way to work.
