Ken Wolfe of Green Bay, Wisconsin, has been in the bike-building game for more than seven years, and has a lot of custom bike builds under his belt. One day at a bar in his hometown, he was having a drink while one of his bikes was parked out front. When Kevin Behing rode by and saw Ken's bike, he started asking around to find out who built it. He had heard that Full Throttle Cycles built some of the cleanest bikes in the state, so he had to get the shop to build him one. He called Ken, set up a meeting, and after about one hour, he had a deposit for a build. Kevin told Ken that he had free rein with the build, as long as the bike was fast and could be an everyday rider.
The frame was the first thing to hit the lift - Kevin wanted the crazy raked-out frontend look, but not the handling. He went with an RC Components Pro-Street frame with 38 degrees of rake in the neck, but went with 2-1/2 inches added to the backbone, then pushed the downtubes up 4 inches for the chopper look he was after. To handle all the bump in the road, a FXST frontend with chrome lowers and 6-inch-over tubes was bolted to the neck to kick out the frontend. Out back, a set of H-D Softail socks with a 1-inch lowering kit was mounted to the swingarm.
To get this chopper rolling, a set of RC Components Wicked wheels were mounted between the lower legs of the frontend and the swingarm - a 21-incher leads the way out front as an 18x10.5 holds up the rear. Metezler rubber covers the wheels with a massive 240mm out back. Four-piston RC Components calipers and rotor were mounted to the rear, and a HHI six-piston caliper bites down on a matching rotor from RC Components up front.
This chopper had to have power, and a lot of it, so Kevin called in an order straight from S&S for a fully polished 113ci Evo-style motor with a Dyna 2000i ignition, a Super G carburetor, and a set of Santee Exhaust pipes. Ken felt that the only way to transfer power was through a six-speed Bay City transmission and a BDL Top Fuel 3-inch open beltdrive.
When it came time to skin this chopper with sheetmetal, Kevin went with a set of Fat Katz fenders, the rear having internal struts. The gas tank and oil bag were handmade by Full Throttle Customs with a little fab work to fit more custom to the frame. With the mock-up done, the bike was stripped down, and everything that was to get paint was sent out to Klug Paintworks. A coat of gloss flake tangerine from House of Kolors was the base for the airbrush graphics.
With everything dry and back at Full Throttle, Kevin started on the assembly. A set of Arlen Ness handlebars were mounted to the custom triple-trees from FTC, along with Joker Machine hand controls and Bay City mirrors. A set of Legends USA foot controls and passenger pegs were mounted to the lower framerails. A Bay City taillight and Drag Specialties headlight provide illumination, and the seat was hand made by Psycho seats to fit the framerail just right.
As soon as the all the wires and lines were hidden through the frame, the bike was taken out for a testride. It ran and handled great, and as the ride was coming to an end, Kevin stopped back at the bar where the project began, and was asked by someone there if the bike was for sale. It wasn't long before he had an order to build one more.
