Customizing since 1989, Chip Miyler started his Galesburg, Illinois, shop, MidWest Choppers, in 1995. He's come a long way in the last 16 years, with over 100 custom bikes under his belt and a ton of national media attention. It's no wonder why so many people have token notice of his work - his attention to detail, metalwork, and cutting-edge design are second to none. For instance, the work that went into this bike, affectionately named "Deranged," is a virtual showcase of MidWest Choppers' quality craftsmanship.
Deranged started out as a custom build for one of his good friends, a guy named Sick Mick. Sick Mick was looking for a cool chopper that he could be proud of and knew that MidWest Choppers was more than capable of producing exactly what he was looking for. Chip and his crew built him a stretched frame (5 inches up and 6 inches out) with incredible custom sheetmetal work, an excessively powerful S&S 124ci motor, and all the high-class parts and accessories to match.
The name Deranged came from Sick Mick's mother. Sick Mick rode the bike over to her house to show her his new MidWest Choppers custom and parked the bike behind her orange PT Cruiser with a license plate that reads "ORANGE." Sick Mick noticed that part of his new bike covered half of the "O" in "ORANGE," so it looked like it read "DRANGE" - since that day the bike has been known as Deranged.
Shortly after Sick Mick had shown off the bike to all his friends and family, Chip was invited to ride with Cory Ness in Cory's cable TV Build-Off against Voodoo Choppers. Chip wanted his good friend, Sick Mick, to ride with him and told him to bring Deranged. Without hesitation, Sick Mick agreed. The two went on the ride with the other builders and were able to enjoy the it without the need for a trailer or any other glitches, unlike some of the other builders.
