We're all familiar with how much the custom bike world has expanded over the past few years. The industry has risen to meet the challenges of increased demand in various ways, one of which is by offering production custom choppers. Just ask Big Rick Hoffman and Keith Zuck. Between the two of them, they have over 45 years of experience building bikes. They've been around the world of motorcycling all of their lives and they absolutely love it. Which is a good thing for them since they own and operate a motorcycle shop, Logic Motor Company in Salem, Ohio. Logic is an NADA-listed motorcycle manufacturer, which allows it to provide financing and insurance for all of the shop's creations.
Keith and Big Rick opened the place almost three years ago after Big Rick's previous shop succumbed to fire. Keith was working in New York at the time of the fire, and Rick called him right after about going into business together. Keith quit his day gig, went into business with his buddy, and hasn't looked back since.
In the time that the friends have been in business together, they've worked hard designing and building custom-quality production bikes, including a Geico-themed Voodoo 1 chopper; in fact, you may know Big Rick from the Geico ads found in some of your favorite bike rags. The Voodoo 2 softail seen here is also a great example of their work. It was conceived with two tenets in mind - long chop style and smooth ridability. Keith attributes Voodoo 2's success in both areas to the bike's geometry: "We wanted the bike to be easy and comfortable to ride for a long chopper and a lot of that comes from its rake and trail setup."
Even though the RC Components frame is stretched 5 inches out and 6 inches up and raked 43 degrees, the American Suspension trees, which are raked 6 degrees, do a lot to keep the front end in line. But another factor in the bike's smooth handling is its motor and drivetrain setup. Voodoo 2 uses a 110-inch RevTech motor and six-speed transmission combo that provides plenty of power and smooth running throughout the rpm range.
Although all Voodoo 2 models share the same construction in terms of stance and riding quality, this isn't to say that they're all complete clones. Logic works with painter Carl Beckett who provides each bike with its own custom paint scheme in order to ensure that each individual chopper looks different than its siblings.
So how successful has Voodoo 2 been for Logic? Enough to inspire a sequel. Voodoo 3, one of Big Rick and Keith's next lines, will have the same geometry as 2 but with a few changes. The shop owners plan to make it a production chopper that sports a mammoth 300 rear tire combined with a right-side drive. It'll be a pretty ambitious project, but the two friends are pretty ambitious people and if 2 is any indication, then 3 should enjoy a good amount of success.
