The Internet is one of the best tools on the planet. It can help find info on just about anything to the hottest new whatever, as well as news, research, eBay, and all the porn you could want. When you hear that it is a great tool-they mean it. It can also help when you are overwhelmed with choices as well. When Jim Riley of Tucson, Arizona, made up his mind to finally get a bike, he started looking for a bike like most people do; looked through a few magazines, stopped by the local dealerships, hit a bike show or two, and even asked a fortune teller to help (ok, just kidding about that one). However, Jim soon had too many bike styles to pick from. There was only one thing he was sure about; he did not want a factory bike that was like every other bike.
Jim started with a few guys from shops he had talked to at shows and he also checked out their websites. By this time, he had a style of bike he liked and wanted in his head, but needed to find a shop that could build it. He came across what he was looking for at Dynamic Choppers in Las Vegas, Nevada, which was a chopper style bike with a big inch motor. As he looked over all the bikes on their website, he noticed that every bike was different and most were built to the customer's order. So Jim called to see if it was just that easy to get what he wanted. Paul Stewart, owner of Dynamic Choppers, answered the phone and Jim introduced himself as a guy from Arizona looking for a unique bike. He also said, "I looked on your website and didn't see exactly what I wanted, but I did see an amazing array of different bikes for some ideas."
Paul told Jim that they build 50 or more one-off custom bikes a year and have never built the same bike twice, but they have come close a few times. Jim clarified his ideas with Paul, and as the information came down the phone line, Paul was already building the bike in his head. Jim said the one thing he wanted was an Accurate Engineering 106ci Panhead motor. As for the rest, he would basically leave that to Paul, except for a few guidelines. Jim wanted a low slung bike, 250 rear tire, custom flame paintjob, one-off pipes, and also just to make it cool and unique, so that Jim would not see the same bike next to him at the first stoplight he came to.
With the build confirmed, the guys got to work. A Redneck one-off frame was ordered, low slung with a 15-inch seat height, 6 inches out, nothing upwards, and 44 degrees in the neck. A template was made of the backbone and a custom gas tank also started to come to life, lots of hand-hammer and dolly work, then English wheeling and some sweet long curves were created. As this was happening, Fat Katz received a call to make a rear fender to Dynamic's specs; hugging the frame with an oil tank dropped in the bottom out-of-sight.Custom wheels were CNC-cut and chromed by Don at Tight Customs with a 21x3.5 up front and a 18x8.5 out back, then wrapped with Avon rubber. Forks from Vince at American Suspension are always their first choice, coupled with Custom Cycle Control Systems hand controls with hidden lines, hydraulic reservoirs, and internal throttle cables, and a set of Dynamic Choppers bars. All the wiring is internal and hidden in the frame. A 3-inch BDL beltdrive with a Dynamic Choppers cover adds a massive amount of chrome to the left side, and a twisting set of one-off pipes intertwine their way around each other and through the frame, wrapped for an old hot rod look.
Jim went to Vegas to meet with the guys at Las Vegas Bike Fest and to see his dream bike come from computer order to something he could ride. The guys took him to the Dynamic shop a few blocks from the Las Vegas Strip so he would be able to see the bike in bare metal; all it needed was paint. Jim had spoken with Joel, owner of Ten Ten Custom Paint in Las Vegas, about the paint and soon after a Pagan Gold flame job was drying on the bike. Then it was personally delivered to Jim's front door, where Paul told Jim he was right about that motor. Now it is burning up the back roads of Arizona in style.
