2006 TMMS Sportster Timeless - Thunder Mountain Pulls No Punches

Up front, Kevin started with a DNA Springer frontend that he just couldn't leave alone. He twisted the legs to be consistent with the rest of the twisted bits on the bike. A standard disc and caliper arrangement helps slow the bike. On the rear Kevin utilized his ATV knowledge by making an interesting jackshaft brake setup using a rotor and caliper from a Polaris racing quad. To clear the meaty 280-rear tire, a short chain off the tranny's mainshaft drives a jackshaft that transfers the power through another chain to the rear wheel. A small rotor and caliper operate right on the jackshaft. Custom idler wheels control rear chain tension.

Kevin put his metalworking skills to task with the sheetmetal, consisting of a one piece, split-design fuel tank that hugs the backbone and rocker boxes. The rear fender was welded and molded into the frame and strengthened with twisted fender supports. Contained in the box under the seat is the oil tank as well as all of the electrics. An electric fuel pump resides in there too, as those big carbs need some serious gas flow. Billy Brown of Long Hair Customs in Redding, CA, laid down all of the root beer-colored paint. Ken Michaelson was called upon for the detailed murals depicting Mel's Diner and Marlon Brando from his Wild One days. Of significance is the image of a '58 Corvette: Back in 1958 Kevin's dad won big in Reno, walked out of the casino, and bought the 'Vette on the spot. After marrying Kevin's mom, they sold the car to be able to build the house that Kevin grew up in.

Kevin explained that his dad taught him all of the good values in life, to achieve his goals and shoot for his dreams, but always remember that family came first. Sadly, Kevin's dad passed away two years ago, but lives on in Kevin and his legacy and values carry on in Kevin's kids. Through them the elder Brooks' legacy will forever be "Timeless."
