Fast forward a year, Denver and most of the guys in the shop were going on a weekend trip to the Kern River, but Mike stayed behind to earn some much needed bread by painting some in the works customer bikes. Well, there was this Sportster frame, tank, and fender that were about ready to go and Mike told Denver he wanted to do some flames thinking he could bring them back into vogue because he was bored with the current paint jobs out there, but Denver told him to stick to what he wanted. After everyone split for the river, Mike started with black acrylic lacquer and went for broke by laying down some skinny yellow and orange flames! When the boss showed up the following Monday he immediately fired Mike. That same day while drowning his sorrows at the bar across the street he was asked to come back over to the shop where the Sportster's owner was amazed and one of Denver's good friends ordered a similar flame job to be done on his Panhead-Mike got his job back and Denver would even wind up with a few flame jobs on his bikes later on.
Over 30 years later, Kayelynn and Chopper Jim found Exorcist's Delight on eBay and knew they had to have it-they are trying to get at least one bike of every engine configuration Denver's built. They put in their bid and painfully waited like it was the apocalypse for the auction to end and they actually won the scooter for much less then their max bid! It wasn't cherry by any means and wore an old root beer brown paint job, but was complete for the most part.
Kaylelynn returned the Sportster to black lacquer this year and copied the controversial flames to a "T". Chopper Jim and Kayelynn had found pinstriper Lil' Louie in Berdoo by recommendation/accident through a friend after Kayelynn knew the local talent couldn't recreate the pinstriping and gold leafing they needed on My Dream. Lil' Louie by amazing luck was the one who originally pinstriped the bike and was more than happy to do it again all these years later.
Kayelynn and Chopper Jim spent many hours restoring the lone Harley to its former feature bike glory, not to mention lots of money at Bush Polishing to redo the chrome and brightwork! Even the narrow 2.75x19 Avon Speedmaster on the radial laced spool front wheel is original from '74. The bike even has its original and inventive Denver's in-fender oil tank. Exorcist's Delight is home for good this time.
My Dream
After Kayelynn got his first bike he would leave it in the Dream Machines showroom. About a year later a man stopped in the shop and told Kayelynn he had a bike that looked like his and was interested in getting it running and to do a quick paint job so it would be presentable to sell and they made arrangements for Kayelynn to look at it. A few weeks passed before the man came back late one night.
Sure enough, it was a Honda SOHC 750 chopper like his, but was a true basket case and looked kinda rough, but the man kept pulling more boxes of parts out of his truck. Then seemingly out of nowhere he hands Kayelynn this old red and gold leafed prism tank that said "My Dream" on the top and damned if Kayelynn didn't almost drop it! He'd seen this tank in the old yellowed pages of those Street Chopper magazines, he was speechless. The owner paid no mind to the shock Kayelynn was trying to hide and told him to paint it any color and just get it running so he can off it.
