We at Street Chopper love the old layouts and poses from the bike feature shoots back in the day like this one of Custom John's '74 Harley Shovelhead pictured with the Ford T-Bucket. This feature originally ran in the January 1976 issue and we thought it was time to give it another go-around.
Custom John used a Pan/Shovel combo for the motor: a '51 lower, and '66 upper. He raked the frontend to 42 degrees to give it that long, stretched look with a 12-inch over lengthened Harley frontend. To roll the bike down the road, 18-inch front and 16-inch rear Mag Invaders were the hottest thing going so of course they were used. And for fuel the iconic peanut tank was a no-brainer.
It's great to see what the guys of the past were doing in their garages without the gargantuan parts catalogs to shop from. Chopper builders back then were truly unique and this bike says it all!
