Back in the '70s long and strong was the way of the chopper world. Steve Edwards picked up this '71 Sportster in 1973 for $2,200. After riding it stock for a bit, his pals convinced him to chop it out. He took their advice. It took two-and-a-half years and $3,300 to do so, but the finished product is still something chopperheads of today can definitely appreciate.
Steve began with a Jammer custom rigid frame with tons of rake and a 12-over California Custom springer frontend to achieve the long roller he wanted. After molding the neck to fit his specs, he put the stock Sporty motor in the frame. Spoke front and rear wheels were thrown on along with a stock rear brake setup and Hallcraft front brake. For paint Steve had the legendary chopper painter, Raja, do the damage. When he got it back from paint, Steve bolted on the rest of the parts, just in time for the Fresno Run.
