hey im thinking about building my own chopper but it will be my 1st bike i got the idea from my uncle who has been riding choppers since god knows when... im thinking about engine size with it being my 1st bike i am only 18 and doing a welding course and motorcycle engineering.. can anyone advise me on what size engine i should use?? thank you all thoughts and opions welcome

I have the Ultima 58mm inverted front end on my custom. After 400 miles the front end blew out on the lower end, opposite side of the seals, and threw oil everywhere. Ultima warrantied it and sent me a brand new front end. After 150 miles, the brand new front end did the same thing. As I have read on a few other threads, Midwest would not deal with me directly and were pretty rude on the phone when I said I was not a dealer. Luckily the shop I deal with got them to play ball and warranty it. But they did tell me nobody at Midwest knew anything about the front end or its internal parts, thats why they just sent a whole new front end. My bike has 48 degrees of rake and i think the forks are flexing slightly on the road instead of compressing causing this problem. Has anybody else had this problem. PLEASE HELP!

check out PAUGHCO or 3Guyz Customs they both have springers for Sportys. Sorry to say, but you will have to get a new brake for the front.

I am a cherry when it comes to Harleys and V-Twins. I am in the process of building my first chopper and would like an opinion of the top 3 or 5 V-Twin Engines offered today. I know S&S is a popular choice but would like to know of a few more that would be equally as good or close to the S&S. Thank you for your time, any guidance or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Long story short. I am 48yrs old and finally going to build my first scooter. Can anyone direct me towards a general list that I can use to itemize all parts, ie: engine, trany, axle plates, gear shifter...... that is nesessary to build a bike. I am not very Knowledgable this is my first project I have an old frame from a yamaha I have stripped it down to nothing but the frame before I get it powder coated i want to go ahead and get the angle on the neck right. How do I find the right angle and then how do I get it without jeoperdizing the integrety of the frame?

Hi everyone, not sure where to post this but I have found and currently trying to "revive" a surviving STREET CHOPPER cover bike that was featured in and on the cover of the April 1979 issue! It shared the cover with one of Ron Fich's(Finch's Custom Styled Cycles) bikes. The bike I have was called "Baker's Shaker", it was on pages 32&33. When the bike was found it was missing the original motor, seat, handle bars, and wheels. It did have wheels on it and a set of buckhorn bars, but they were not from the original build. It was lying on it's side in an old hay barn. There was also a sportster in the barn that, come to find out, had the motor from the chopper in it!!! SCORE!! I bought the two bikes and brought them home. I have since been trying to find out more of the history of the bike, talked to the original painter!!! and made contact with the man that made/stitched up the original seat. He is now well into his 70's and not really ineterested in trying to remake the seat. He still does some upholstery work, but this was the only motorcycle seat he ever did and vowed to never do another!!! I have afew pics of it now as it is, I have some twisted Z bars on it and made a thin seat to at least have some pad to sit on until I can have one made up. The paint and chrome have held up very well considering it was done 30+ years ago!! The 22" over Fury springer is still tight and rides great. hello, I'm the new guy (scrub) I just got a 98 sporster 883 and I want to make a chopper. dont know if the bike is a sporster xl or standard any thoughts. the reason i'm asking is because all the hardtail weld on frames are for sportster xl. As stated before i'm the new guy to the site and also new to building bikes. I'm either gonna build a rat bobber or a chopper out of this 98 sporty engine with only 15k miles. any advice will help. seems like alot of guys here know there stuff . Thanks Tom McMahon

so, i can fire my bike up but it dies soon afterward. i put in new plugs and it looked like i was running rich. but even with the new plugs the problem was the same. on some occations when i'm firing her up there is a pop and smoke coming from the carb. i would love some suggestions and keep in mind, i'm no pro..just kind of learning as i go. the engine is a rev-tech 100" and i have a mikuni 44mm carb

Ok, well, it looks like no one knows. I ordered the sensor anyway. When it comes in I will post technical info about the threads AND the sensor (which I actually got at egauges.com, it was cheaper).
