Turning A Softail Into A Chopper - Modern Bob-Job

1. When the tank for the EFI bikes is shipped, it comes with the flange welded into the bottom of the tank and a drop-out aluminum piece that the factory fuel pump and sending unit bolts to. That's an assembled fuel pump and bracket in the foreground.

2. The assembled unit simply slips into place in the welded-in flange in the bottom of the tank and is bolted in using the provided Allen head bolts.

3. Once the fuel pump assembly is installed into the bottom of the fuel tank, the RSD backbone cover is fit with the factory ignition switch (we'll do that after it is painted) and is simply slipped over the frame.

4. The pre-assembled tank and fuel pump is then brought over from the workbench...

5. ...and set into place. Once the fuel line and wiring is plugged in, the tank is bolted down.

6. Out back, the Factory frame horns are cut off and replaced by these trick-looking aluminum struts, and the factory fender is replaced with this shorty unit. The RSD Vintage kit will allow for the installation of a 200 rear tire with the factory swingarm and a narrow belt or chain conversion or a 240 rear tire with the PhatTail kit from Performance Machine.

7. As Rodney buttoned up the conversion with the installation of a set of RSD bars and Performance Machine hand controls, we headed outside to watch Roland tear around the streets of La Palma on his personal '02 Softail that he calls The Stocker.
